Four students of Dnepropetrovsk National Mining University from team M.D. that participated in the national finals of the technology competition Microsoft Imagine Cup started implementation of their eMedicine solution presented in the finals. In August, the team started its two-month internship at Smart-Holding to finalize and implement its software solution designed to digitize the medical cards and systematize the doctors' work processes.
'We spotted the team at the finals screening of Microsoft Imagine Cup in April and saw their potential in software development. We promised them an internship back then, and now we are delivering on our promise providing them with an opportunity to finalize and implement their solution in Ukraine, in an operating insurance company that is part to Smart-Holding,' says Andrey Morozov, the IT Director of Smart-Holding.
He says that Industrial and Insurance Alliance insurance company has long felt the need for a similar solution and, if properly finalized, the team's software can automate the work of the insurance company's doctors, simplify the patient data processing operations, systematize and analyze the stored information. The eMedicine software solution was presented by Olga Chervona, Oksana Avchinnikova, Andrey Balakin and Ksenia Grigoryeva as a competition entry at the national finals of Imagine Cup in April. It is designed to assist family doctors in digitizing and systematizing the medical cards, medical histories and prescribed treatment data.
'We are happy that our software presented at the Microsoft competition caught the attention of Smart-Holding, that the company became interested in our project and gave us the opportunity to implement it. This is an excellent opportunity for our professional development, and we shall do our best to make our cooperation efficient and productive,' said Andrey Balakin. The initial project idea is that the software is installed on the family doctor's tablet. In case of a patient's call, the doctor can easily access the patient's data and address and download his/her medical card as well as his/her family members' medical cards from the cloud storage. After the doctor has visited the patient, the data should be updated in the cloud drive.
'Imagine Cup gives the students an opportunity to create and implement the projects designed to solve acute social problems. Ukraine has demonstrated its huge innovative potential this year winning the international finals in Sydney. Now the students that participated in the competition are implementing their solutions in real-life Ukrainian companies,' says Andrey Terekhov, Director of the Strategic Technologies Department at Microsoft Ukraine.
As was previously reported, this year saw the first-ever Ukraine's victory in the international technology competition Imagine Cup. The team quadSquad from the Donetsk Branch of STEP Computer Academy won the most prestigious nomination of the competition – Software Design. The students brought the Microsoft Imagine Cup trophy along with USD 25,000 from Australia.
