ChSY Signed Protocol of Intent to Build a Series of Complete Trawlers

06.02.2014

Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard (ChSY, Nikolaev, Ukraine) has signed a protocol of intentions with the Far East company Preobrazhenskaya Base of Trawling Fleet (PBTF, Russian Federation) for the construction of a series of complete fishing vessels.

The Parties, in particular, agreed about the possibility to build a series of large freezer trawlers for fish processing factories using the manufacturing facilities of the shipyard from Nikolaev. The vessels will be designed for over-trawling and variable depth trawling of fish offering unlimited navigation area. The number of the ships and other terms and conditions of the cooperation will be formalized through separate contractual agreements.

In addition, during the negotiations, the Parties outlined some steps to initiate the adoption of package of relevant laws and international agreements, both in Ukraine and in the Russian Federation, to improve working conditions in the performance of contracts for the construction of the fishing fleet.

Earlier, in 2000 and 2012, ChSY built two large freezer trawlers for PBTF (Project 1288) – ‘Preobrazheniya Bay’ and ‘General Troshev’.

‘We are pleased to resume our cooperation with a long-time partner. Signature of the protocol, which enables our company to get closer to a contract for construction of a series of trawlers, is the result of the negotiation process between the governmental authorities of the two countries. Without active support from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Ministry of Industrial Policy, particularly, it would have been impossible,’ Valeriy Kalashnikov, the general director of Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard, commented on the signature of the protocol of intentions.

‘Successful trawling operation of ‘Preobrazheniya Bay’ and ‘General Troshev’ trawlers, built by Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard of Nikolaev, predetermined our choice in favour of Ukrainian shipbuilders. Thus, ‘General Troshev’ trawler built at ChSY in March 2012 got into gear during Alaska pollack fishing season and today continues its successful operation in the field. Over a short time, the trawler reached its target performance. Currently, the trawler is running at full capacity producing about 200 tonnes of fish per day,’ said the General Director of Preobrazhenskaya Base of Trawling Fleet, Sergey Eremeev.

ChSY (Public Joint-Stock Company) is a shipyard with the highest technical potential in Ukraine. The plant has two inclined staples (‘0’ and ‘1’) for construction of ships and vessels with displacement of up to 105,000 tonnes. Flow-line and positional production system is designed for a serial production of vessels with deadweight of up to 9,000 tonnes. Vessel production sites and construction flow lines are located in one covered building about 400 metres long. ChSY is a part of Smart Maritime Group shipbuilding holding company (Ukraine).

Smart Maritime Group (SMG) is Ukraine’s largest shipbuilding holding company. It was established in 2009 to manage the marine assets of Smart-Holding. SMG integrates two largest shipbuilding companies of Ukraine, Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard and Kherson Shipyard.
