SMG Completed Modernization of Gelius 1 Multipurpose Dry-Cargo Vessel

Specialists of Kherson shipyard, Smart Maritime Group, have completed the modernization of and have put into operation Gelius 1 dry-cargo vessel (flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis).

In the course of the modernization, the vessel was lengthened by 25.35 meters due to an extension block and became a two-hold vessel. At the same time, the total capacity of the holds increased by more than 64% to 7,377 cubic meters. Folder type hatch covers with a hydraulic drive were also installed. The weight of the extension block together with the hatch covers is 393 tons.

Thanks to the modernization, made according to the design project of the Marine Engineering Bureau (Odesa), the deadweight of the vessel at a summer waterline draft of 4.85 meters was increased by 54% or by 1,935 tons – up to 5,492 tons.

The vessel received КМ Ice2 R2-RSN (4.5) АUT3 class.

Gelius 1 vessel of 003RSD04/ALB02 project was built in 2007 at Aksoy Shipyard (Gelibolu, Turkey) according to the design project of the Marine Engineering Bureau. The initial design dimensions of the vessel were 90 x 15.9 meters. Its depth moulded was 4.5 m, and its deadweight – 3,640 tons.
