Kherson shipyard of Smart Maritime Group (the shipbuilding business of Smart-Holding Group) is performing an in-depth overhaul of Gelius 1 dry-cargo ship (flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis).
As part of the re-design, the length of the vessel will be increased to 115.2 meters.
About 400 tons of high-strength shipbuilding steel will be used to manufacture a 25.35-meter insert. During the job performance, the new cylindrical insert will be built and the hold coamings will be lifted up. In addition, the shipyard's specialists will paint the outer skin and cargo holds of the ship, will lay new piping systems and install new hatch covers.
The upgrade, carried out according to the design project of the Marine Engineering Bureau (Odesa), will significantly improve the technical and economic characteristics of the vessel. It will become a 2-hold ship with a 45% increased dead weight (from 3,640 to 5,250 tons).
It is planned to complete the upgrade and hand the ship over to the customer indicatively in October of this year.
The value of the contract is UAH 25 million.
