Specialists of Kherson Shipyard of Smart Maritime Group have completed the upgrade of a group of dry-cargo coaster ships belonging to Eems Werken B.V. (the Netherlands). The upgrade has been performed on a high-quality level and on schedule.
In the course of the renovation, the length of each vessel increased by 12 metres due to the installation of an insert and an inter-hold bulkhead, which significantly boosted the technical and economic parameters of the vessels – they became 2-hold vessels (v. single-hold before the implementation of the project), and their deadweight grew up by an average of 20%.
During the execution of the contract, the shipyard’s specialists used about 900 tons of metal produced by Metinvest Holding for the manufacture of metal structures.
In addition, the shipyard painted the ballast tanks, vessel shells and cargo holds. More than 36 tons of paint were used for this purpose, and the total area of processed metal surfaces was more than 10 hectares. Besides that, the ships’ new piping systems were laid, new hatch covers were installed, free-fall boat lunching units were erected and sets of CO2 fire extinguishing systems were mounted.
Dmitriy Krasnikov, CEO of Smart Maritime Group, noted that the customer was satisfied with the quality of the works performed and their fulfilment in line with the schedule.
‘Another successfully implemented project has confirmed the high professionalism of our specialists. We will continue to actively develop cooperation with the Netherlands and other international partners. In the near future, we plan to hold negotiations and expect to sign a new contract for the upgrade of several more motor-driven ships,’ said Dmitriy Krasnikov.
